Police on Thursday sought court permission to show former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque arrested in a fresh case filed with Banani Police Station over charges of attempted murder and violations of the Explosives Act.
Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam submitted the application before Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah, who fixed July 6 for a hearing on the plea in the presence of the accused, prosecution official Sub-Inspector Moktar Hossain said.
Khairul Haque was arrested at his Dhanmondi residence on July 24, 2025, and has remained in jail since.
The High Court on May 17 directed the authorities not to show him arrested in any new case without a specific legal basis and ordered that he not be subjected to harassment.
He has since secured bail in all eight previously filed cases against him, including those linked to the July uprising, a Jatrabari murder case, and five cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Earlier on Thursday, the Appellate Division upheld his bail in the Jatrabari murder case.
Despite securing bail in all existing cases, police have now sought court approval to show the former chief justice arrested in the new case involving attempted murder and alleged violations of the Explosives Act.
