Dhaka: Water flows in Bangladesh’s four major rivers—the Brahmaputra, Jamuna, Ganges and Padma—are currently normal, while rainfall in the northern and northeastern river basins has declined significantly compared to the past few days.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre of the Bangladesh Water Development Board released the information in its flood forecast bulletin on Sunday (September 6).
According to the bulletin, water levels in the major river basins remain within normal limits, and there is currently no significant risk of sudden or widespread flooding in the low-lying areas of northern and northeastern Bangladesh.
However, due to seasonal weather patterns, moderate rainfall may continue in some areas and in the upstream regions of several rivers.
Authorities said upstream water flows and rainfall across the country are being monitored continuously. Smooth drainage through the major rivers is also preventing additional water pressure from building up in low-lying communities.
Water levels in coastal areas and parts of the northeastern region that are prone to sudden rises remain well below the danger level. Occasional moderate to heavy rainfall may cause temporary waterlogging in some areas, but it is unlikely to develop into a prolonged flood situation.
The authorities are maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of river basins so that necessary measures can be taken promptly if the situation changes.
