US President Donald Trump has said that the renewed conflict with Iran will not continue for much longer, while warning that Washington is prepared to launch further attacks if necessary.
Speaking at the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump said US forces had destroyed an Iranian rocket being developed to deploy mines, along with radar and missile systems near the Strait of Hormuz.
He described the latest US strike as a major attack and said Washington could carry out another operation at any time.
The remarks came after Iran retaliated against US and allied targets in the region following recent American strikes.
The renewed hostilities have raised concerns about further escalation and disruption to shipping and energy supplies through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Trump, however, said he expected the latest confrontation with Iran to end relatively soon.
