At least five people were killed and 24 others injured in Israeli airstrikes on Friday that struck southern Lebanon in the latest violations of a ceasefire agreement, state news agency NNA and health officials said.
Two young men were killed in a drone strike in the southern city of Nabatieh. The strike targeted the men riding a motorcycle near the Engineers’ Syndicate building in the city.
Separately, two people were killed in the town of Kfar Rumman, Nabatieh district.
Meanwhile, three people were injured in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, and four others wounded in the town of Mayfadoun.
Later, one person was killed and several injured from a strike targeting a home in the town of Ramadiyeh, Tyre district.
The Health Ministry said 15, including six paramedics, three women, and two children were also injured in the attack.
Separately, Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on the Al-Ruwais neighborhood near an orphanage in the outskirts of the city of Nabatieh.
The warplanes also launched two consecutive strikes near Al-Dabsha Hill on the outskirts of Nabatieh Al-Fawqa, along with two strikes on the towns of Kfour and Maifadoun in Nabatieh district.
Israel said it was bombing areas in southern Lebanon in response to Hezbollah launching a drone toward its forces operating in the “security zone.”
Hezbollah did not immediately comment on the Israeli claims.
The attacks come amid continued Israeli escalation against villages and towns across southern Lebanon despite an agreement between Beirut and Tel Aviv providing for a gradual Israeli withdrawal as part of a US-mediated negotiating process.
Since March, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed more than 4,000 people and injured over 12,000 others, while forcing more than 1 million people from their homes, according to Lebanese authorities. Source AA.
