Two Naga civilians were killed and two others injured in a fresh shooting incident in India’s Manipur state, according to NDTV.

The attack reportedly took place on Saturday (September 26) afternoon at the residence of a village chief in the Kalenjang area of Senapati district. Armed attackers allegedly opened fire on people inside the house.

Police quickly reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and assessed the situation. However, the motive for the attack and the identities of those responsible have not yet been confirmed.

The deceased were identified as Rocky and Kumar, residents of two different villages in Senapati district. The identities and current conditions of the two injured people were not immediately available.

Some local sources alleged that members of the Kuki community may have been behind the attack. However, there has been no official confirmation of the claim.

This was reportedly the second attack on Naga civilians in Manipur within three days. Just two days earlier, four civilians were killed in an armed attack in Kamjong district near the India–Myanmar border. The successive incidents have heightened concerns over the safety of Naga civilians in the state.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the attack. A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office described the incident as “cowardly violence” against innocent people.

The statement said the two injured victims had been admitted to a hospital in Senapati. The chief minister expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
