Madinah: A Saudi-led military coalition has claimed that it detected and destroyed a cruise missile in the skies over the Madinah region of Saudi Arabia. However, the missile’s launch point and intended target remain unclear.

Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki announced the development in a brief statement on social media platform X on Thursday (October 15). No details were provided about possible casualties or damage to infrastructure.

The announcement came amid continued tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi rebels. Recent reports have highlighted missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi territory, including allegations of strikes on airports and energy infrastructure by the Iran-backed Houthis.

However, the Houthis denied carrying out any attack on Saudi Arabia on Thursday. The group’s military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, said in a statement that no attack had been launched against the kingdom that day.

Earlier, Saudi authorities had accused the Houthis of carrying out a drone attack on the Taiba electricity distribution station in Madinah on September 29. The alleged strike reportedly disabled a transformer at the facility, which supplies electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites.

The Saudi-led coalition also blamed the Houthis for that incident, but the group denied responsibility for the alleged attack in Madinah.
