Two Bangladesh police personnel have been detained by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) after a drug recovery operation near the Ashabari border in Brahmanpara upazila of Cumilla.

The incident took place at around 10:30pm on Thursday, October 15, near border pillar No. 2059 in the Shashidal Union area.

The detained personnel have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Imran Ahmed and Constable Rohit Marma, both serving at Brahmanpara Police Station.

According to police, the two officers were conducting a nighttime operation to recover drugs when they chased a suspected drug trader towards the border.

Constable Rohit reportedly crossed into Indian territory after losing his way and was detained by local people.

ASI Imran was also detained when he went to secure his colleague’s release.

The two were subsequently handed over to BSF personnel.

Brahmanpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Faruk Hossain confirmed the incident, saying that senior officials were holding discussions to bring the two personnel back to Bangladesh.

Efforts are underway to resolve the situation through communication between the border forces of the two countries.
