DHAKA: The Law Ministry has introduced a lottery-based system for transferring sub-registrars in an effort to prevent irregularities and corruption in the transfer process.

At a ceremony held at the Law Ministry on Tuesday morning, 18 sub-registrars were selected through a lottery for 18 Category-A sub-registrar posts in Dhaka district.

Law Minister Asaduzzaman said the ministry had received numerous complaints regarding the transfer of sub-registrars. To address concerns over the process, the ministry decided to introduce a transparent lottery system.

The 18 officials selected for Dhaka will be assigned to different offices based on their qualifications and the workload of the respective offices, the minister said.

“The administration wants to break the cycle of corruption in government offices. The lottery-based transfer of sub-registrars is part of that initiative,” he said.

The minister also warned the transferred officials that they would remain under close monitoring. Action would be taken if complaints were received against any of them, he said.

There are 372 sub-registrar posts across the country, of which 139 are currently vacant, according to the minister.
