Police have recovered the decomposed bodies of three members of the same family from their home in Bagerhat’s Kachua upazila, in what investigators suspect was a planned murder.
The bodies were recovered on Tuesday from a house in Paschim Chanderkola village under Rarhipara Union.
The deceased were identified as Ahad Howlader, 22, son of Abdar Howlader; Monira Begum, 55, daughter of the late Rashid Sheikh; and Rashida Begum, 85, Monira’s mother.
According to local residents, neighbours became suspicious after a strong foul smell had been coming from the house for several days.
They informed police, who entered the house and recovered the decomposed bodies.
Police said the condition of the bodies suggests the deaths occurred several days ago. While preliminary findings indicate the incident may have been a brutal, premeditated murder, the exact cause and circumstances of the deaths will be determined after a full investigation.
Senior police officials visited the scene, and the bodies are being sent for autopsy following the completion of inquest reports.
Police said an investigation has been launched to determine the motive behind the killings and identify those responsible. Further legal action will be taken based on the autopsy findings and the progress of the investigation.
Mahamud Hasan, the investigation officer of Kachua Police Station, said neighbours alerted police after noticing a strong odour coming from the house for several days.
“Police recovered the decomposed bodies of three people from the house. We suspect it was a planned murder, but the exact details will be known after the autopsy,” he said.
