Fire reported at Kushtia July 36 Memorial

Kushtia: Allegations have emerged that activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League set fire to the July 36 Memorial located on the premises of Shaheed Abrar Fahad Stadium in Kushtia.

However, police are investigating whether the incident actually took place and whether a video circulating on social media was generated using artificial intelligence (AI).

The incident reportedly occurred around 4am on Tuesday (August 11).

Later, a Facebook post claiming responsibility for the incident in the name of activists of the banned Chhatra League began circulating. Following the incident, members of the law enforcement agencies visited the site.

Meanwhile, leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Kushtia expressed concern over the alleged arson at the July 36 Memorial.

Jannatul Ferdous Tony, convener of the NCP’s Kushtia district unit, said, “Setting fire to the July 36 Memorial is not an ordinary incident. It is a grave insult to the memory of the martyrs of the July uprising. Those responsible must be identified and arrested promptly.”

Kushtia Police Superintendent Mohammad Jasim Uddin said, “We are examining whether the video was edited or generated using AI. We are also verifying whether the incident actually occurred. In addition, our police personnel were deployed on duty there. We are also checking whether they were present at their posts at the time.”
