A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by members of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in the Chunti Bil border area of Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj on Sunday.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Tanzilur Rahman, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh’s (BGB) Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB), confirmed the incident at around 3:00pm.
According to BGB sources, the man was shot while allegedly attempting to bring cattle from India, about one kilometre inside Indian territory from the zero line. His identity could not be immediately confirmed.
Following the incident, BGB increased surveillance along the Chunarughat border.
Lieutenant Colonel Tanzilur Rahman said the incident occurred inside Indian territory and that further information was being collected.
