An Assistant Commissioner (Land) in Kurigram’s Roumari upazila has been accused of threatening another journalist with abduction and murder.
Journalist Sakhawat Hossain, Roumari correspondent for Kalbela, filed a general diary (GD) application with Roumari Police Station, fearing for his life and safety.
He alleged that AC-Land Rafiur Rahman made the threats during a phone conversation on Thursday (September 3).
According to Sakhawat, he called the AC-Land to inquire about a mobile court operation at the home of journalist Saju. During the conversation, Rafiur allegedly became angry over Sakhawat’s previous reports about alleged irregularities and corruption involving him.
Sakhawat claimed the official threatened to implicate him in a case and said he could be abducted or killed.
He said he and his family were now concerned about their safety and sought protection from the government.
The journalist had previously published reports alleging irregularities involving the AC-Land, including claims of a wrong verdict over alleged bribery and irregularities in land administration.
Roumari Police Station Officer-in-Charge confirmed receiving the GD application, saying police would verify the allegations before taking further action.
The AC-Land could not be reached for comment as he reportedly blocked the journalist’s phone number and did not respond to WhatsApp calls or messages.
