The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said activities involving cocktail explosions in the capital are being carried out on the instructions of central leaders of the banned Awami League to create panic among the public.

Molla Md Shaheen, deputy commissioner of DMP’s Wari Division, made the statement at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Sunday (September 20).

He said a man named Raihan, an Awami League activist from the Bangshal unit, was arrested over a cocktail blast in front of Jatrabari Police Station on Thursday. Police learned about the alleged involvement of banned party leaders during his preliminary interrogation, he said.

Four unexploded cocktails were also recovered from Raihan’s residence, according to the police official. Based on information provided by him, three more suspects were arrested.

The Wari division DC also alleged that the Awami League was involved in recent cocktail explosions and incidents of buses being set on fire in the capital.
