GAZIPUR: A leader of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in Sreepur, Gazipur, has been accused of forcibly taking a college student away in a vehicle. Following a written complaint filed by the student’s family with the police, he was expelled from his organisational post.
The accused, Md Rizvi, 24, was the general secretary of the JCD unit at Pear Ali University College.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday morning. The student’s family filed a written complaint with the police against Rizvi, his father Monir Hossain and mother Nilufa Akter.
In a letter signed by Gazipur district JCD Office Secretary Sarker Rakib Hossain, the organisation announced Rizvi’s removal from his post, citing allegations of violating organisational discipline.
According to the student’s family and local sources, the second-year student of Pear Ali University College went to a shop in front of her home on Monday morning. Rizvi was allegedly there with several associates. When the student approached the shop, she was allegedly pulled into a vehicle and taken away.
The family alleged that Rizvi had been harassing the student for a long time while she travelled to and from the college. After her family informed Rizvi’s parents, they allegedly proposed marriage instead of taking action against their son. The student’s family rejected the proposal.
Local police said they have been conducting operations to locate the student since receiving the complaint. The search operation is continuing, and legal action will be taken in connection with the incident, they added.
