The government has dismissed Additional Deputy Inspector General (Additional DIG) of Police Tutul Chakraborty from service after allegations of misconduct, including leaving his workplace before the scheduled time and using an airport VIP lounge by identifying himself as a DIG, were proven.

The decision was announced in a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs last Wednesday. According to the notification, Tutul Chakraborty had been attached to the office of the DIG of Rajshahi Range while under temporary suspension. The notification described him as absconding since January 23.

The notification said Chakraborty had been granted two days of leave, including permission to leave his workplace, for November 14 and 15, 2025, followed by three days of casual leave from November 16 to 18. However, he left his workplace on November 13, a day before his leave began, without submitting the required departure report.

On that day, Chakraborty allegedly concealed his actual designation and identified himself as a DIG. He then used the DIG lounge and boarded a US-Bangla Airlines flight from Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi to Dhaka at around 10:20am.

The notification further stated that Chakraborty had previously used the VIP lounge at Rajshahi Airport on several occasions by introducing himself as the DIG of Rajshahi Range. The activities came to the attention of various intelligence agencies, and the notification said they had severely damaged the police’s public image.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, these actions amounted to gross negligence in performing official duties, disregard for lawful orders and violations of departmental discipline.

The ministry said the offences were punishable as misconduct under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
