Malaysia’s Immigration Department detained 325 foreign nationals, including Bangladeshis, during an early-morning raid in Putrajaya following public complaints, officials said.
A total of 740 people were screened during the operation at an apartment complex on Wednesday morning. The detainees comprised 270 men and 55 women, aged between 18 and 56. They were nationals of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Thailand. The number of Bangladeshis detained was not immediately known.
The operation involved 127 immigration officers, along with officials from the Labour Department and the National Registration Department. Authorities said the raid followed a period of surveillance and intelligence gathering based on public complaints and information received.
The detainees were allegedly found to have committed various immigration offences, including possessing no valid travel documents or passes, overstaying and violating pass conditions.
All 325 detainees were sent to the Lenggeng Immigration Detention Depot for investigation and further legal proceedings. They will face action under Malaysia’s Immigration Act 1959/63 and related regulations.
The Immigration Department said nationwide operations against undocumented migrants would be intensified. It also warned that employers, landlords and others who recruit, shelter or assist undocumented migrants could face action.
