BNP Standing Committee Member and Prime Minister’s Adviser Mirza Abbas is making steady progress while undergoing rehabilitation treatment in Malaysia, party leaders said on Monday.
BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan said Abbas completed a scheduled therapy session on Monday morning and, following doctors’ advice, took a walk with his wife in an open area and performed light physical exercises as part of his recovery programme.
He said the senior BNP leader is regularly receiving leg rehabilitation therapy at the Pusat Rehabilitasi Neuro-Robotics and Cybernics Kebangsaan PERKESO Centre in Malaysia.
According to party sources, doctors have advised Abbas to continue physiotherapy, walking and light exercise to aid his rehabilitation and regain mobility.
Expressing optimism over his condition, Sayrul Kabir said Mirza Abbas is responding well to treatment and is expected to recover gradually. He also sought prayers from the people of the country for the BNP leader’s full and speedy recovery.
Mirza Abbas fell seriously ill after suddenly losing consciousness during iftar on March 11. He was initially admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, where he underwent brain surgery.
As his condition required advanced medical care, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on March 15. After nearly a month of treatment there, his health improved significantly.
Following the recommendation of his physicians, Abbas was later transferred to Prince Court Medical Centre in Malaysia to continue physiotherapy and specialised rehabilitation aimed at restoring his physical strength and mobility.
Party leaders remain hopeful that he will complete his rehabilitation successfully and return home after making a full recovery.
