Bangladesh is set to join China’s newly launched global artificial intelligence (AI) alliance, marking a significant step in strengthening technological cooperation between the two countries.
The decision was announced following Bangladesh’s participation in the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2026 in Shanghai, where Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled the international AI cooperation initiative.
The alliance aims to promote collaboration in AI research, governance, innovation and capacity building among participating countries.
Officials said Bangladesh’s inclusion in the alliance reflects the government’s growing focus on developing AI capabilities, expanding digital infrastructure and enhancing international cooperation in emerging technologies.
The initiative is expected to provide Bangladesh with greater access to AI expertise, technology transfer, research partnerships and investment opportunities.
During the conference, Bangladesh’s delegation highlighted the country’s commitment to adopting artificial intelligence for public services, education, healthcare, agriculture and smart governance.
Government representatives also emphasized the importance of ensuring that AI development remains ethical, inclusive and beneficial for developing nations.
China launched the alliance as part of its broader vision for global AI governance, encouraging countries to work together on setting international standards, sharing technological advancements and narrowing the digital divide.
Analysts say the initiative also reflects Beijing’s efforts to play a larger role in shaping the future of AI governance worldwide.
Bangladesh’s participation is expected to open new avenues for collaboration with Chinese institutions and technology companies while supporting the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.
