Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said allowing former prime minister Sheikh Hasina to make public political remarks from Indian territory is detrimental to the development of harmonious bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry expressed outrage over Hasina’s live media interaction in New Delhi, describing it as an affront to Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
It said permitting a fugitive convicted individual to engage in political activities from Indian soil undermines mutual respect and the spirit of friendly bilateral relations.
The ministry reiterated its expectation that India would take appropriate measures to prevent its territory from being used for political activities targeting Bangladesh, in line with the interests of maintaining stable and constructive ties between the two neighbours.
The statement follows Sheikh Hasina’s media appearance at an event in New Delhi, which Bangladesh said violated its earlier concerns conveyed to the Indian authorities regarding her political activities from abroad.
