Bangladesh and Indonesia have discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on visa services, tourism, civil aviation and people-to-people connectivity.
The Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka said it continues to facilitate visa services for Bangladeshi nationals under Indonesia’s existing policy framework. It said the mechanism for using the e-visa system is expected to be further improved to provide greater convenience for Bangladeshis travelling to Indonesia.
The issues were discussed when Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Listyowati paid a courtesy call on Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam in Dhaka recently. State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat also attended the meeting.
The two sides discussed visa-related matters and ways to facilitate people-to-people mobility, particularly for business travellers and tourists, according to a statement issued by the Indonesian Embassy on Wednesday.
The meeting was part of a series of courtesy calls by the Indonesian ambassador on senior Bangladeshi government officials since she assumed office in January 2026. It also provided an opportunity to strengthen communication and explore new areas of bilateral cooperation.
The discussions covered tourism development, improved air connectivity, human resource development and stronger people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and Indonesia.
The two sides also discussed possible joint activities in tourism and culture ahead of the 55th anniversary of Bangladesh-Indonesia diplomatic relations in 2027.
The Indonesian ambassador expressed her country’s interest in developing more concrete cooperation in tourism, including tourism promotion, destination development, exchange of expertise and institutional cooperation.
Both sides also discussed capacity building and human resource development in the tourism sector.
In civil aviation, they explored potential cooperation in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), including technical assistance, training and capacity building.
They also discussed opportunities to improve air connectivity between the two countries, including the possibility of introducing direct flights.
