Karoline to leave White House press secretary post

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down from her position at the end of August, President Donald Trump has announced.

Leavitt said she made the “bittersweet” decision to leave the post to spend more time with her young family.

She recently returned to work after maternity leave following the birth of her second child in May.

At 28, Leavitt is the youngest person to have served as White House press secretary.

She was appointed by Trump in January 2025 and became one of the administration’s most prominent public defenders.

Trump praised Leavitt’s performance and said she would continue to serve as an outside adviser and remain an influential voice within the Republican Party.

Her successor has not yet been announced.

Leavitt’s departure comes ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, in which Trump is expected to rely on her continued political involvement.
