Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a three-day suspension of attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, beginning Saturday night, following a visit to Moscow by a US delegation, CNN reported.
The Kremlin announced the temporary halt after US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday. The two are visiting Russia’s capital for talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
According to the Kremlin, the suspension will begin at midnight local time on Saturday. However, the pause applies only to Kyiv and does not cover other parts of Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the move was linked to facilitating the Americans’ communications and preparations for meetings in Kyiv.
Russian state media reported that Putin was scheduled to meet with the US delegation on Saturday. After their visit to Moscow, Witkoff and Kushner are expected to travel to Kyiv.
Earlier on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian missile strikes had targeted two airports near Kyiv, including Boryspil Airport, which previously handled international flights.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump described Witkoff and Kushner as “great negotiators” and said they were carrying a proposal aimed at ending the war.
Trump also said there was “a good chance” that the effort could succeed.
