The European Union (EU) on Monday reaffirmed its support for Bangladesh’s economic reform agenda, pledging closer cooperation in trade, investment, sustainable finance and governance as the country prepares for graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.

The commitment came during a meeting between Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Planning Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir and EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller.

According to the European Commission, the meeting was “productive, lively and forward-looking,” with both sides holding extensive discussions on Bangladesh’s reform priorities and the future direction of EU-Bangladesh economic cooperation.

The talks covered a broad range of issues, including bilateral trade, trade diversification, quality investment, public finance reforms, sustainable finance, digital governance and Bangladesh’s preparations for LDC graduation.

The EU reiterated its readiness to work closely with Bangladesh in advancing rules-based trade, transparent investment, green growth and inclusive economic development.

Both sides also explored ways to strengthen economic ties through enhanced cooperation on sustainable finance, improving the investment climate and expanding peer exchanges on transparency, e-governance and social protection systems.

The discussions highlighted the importance of maintaining reform momentum as Bangladesh moves towards LDC graduation, with the EU expressing its willingness to support policies that enhance competitiveness, attract quality investment and ensure sustainable long-term growth.
