Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on Japanese investors to invest in five priority sectors in Bangladesh, including automobile manufacturing, energy, technology and space cooperation, high-speed rail and logistics, and agro-processing.

He made the call while delivering the keynote address at the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Forum at the headquarters of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in Tokyo on Wednesday.

The forum, jointly organised by JETRO and the Japan-Bangladesh Committee for Commercial and Economic Cooperation, with support from the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo, also saw the exchange of memorandums of understanding and the announcement of 17 investment and cooperation projects.

The prime minister assured Japanese businesses of government support and reforms to improve the investment climate and encourage greater participation in the identified sectors.

In the energy sector, he highlighted investment opportunities in liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure, gas-fired power generation and renewable energy.

He also outlined plans to establish a Bangladesh-Japan technology park focusing on artificial intelligence, cloud computing, robotics and electronics manufacturing.

Rahman further highlighted plans to develop a high-speed rail network connecting major cities, including Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal.

Addressing investors’ concerns, he stressed the importance of reliable energy supplies, improved infrastructure and greater predictability in the tax and customs systems to facilitate long-term investment.
