Bangladesh has formally requested India to extradite former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who has been sentenced to death in a case involving crimes against humanity linked to the July mass uprising.
The request was recently sent through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with a certified copy of the verdict delivered by the International Crimes Tribunal.
Officials say the move marks a significant step in pursuing justice for alleged atrocities committed during the unrest.
The case stems from violence during the July–August uprising, in which former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun were accused of crimes against humanity.
On November 17, 2025, the tribunal found Hasina and Kamal guilty and handed down death sentences. Al-Mamun, who later testified for the prosecution, was sentenced to five years in prison.
Authorities in Dhaka have not disclosed details of India’s response, but the extradition request signals growing diplomatic engagement on the high-profile case.
