United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen today on Thursday underscored the importance of military cooperation and people-to-people engagement as the cornerstones of Bangladesh-US relations, describing music as a powerful medium for fostering friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations.
Speaking at a joint musical performance by the Bangladesh Air Force Band and the US Army’s 25th Infantry Division “Tropic Lightning” Band at the Bangladesh Air Force Museum in Dhaka, the ambassador said cultural and military exchanges continue to deepen the longstanding partnership between Bangladesh and the United States.
The event was organized as part of the US Embassy’s “Freedom 250 America Week” celebrations, marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States.
“We’re delighted to celebrate this occasion alongside our friends and partners in the Bangladesh Air Force,” Ambassador Christensen said, expressing gratitude to the Bangladesh Air Force for hosting the collaborative performance.
Describing military musicians as “some of the finest diplomats,” the ambassador noted that music transcends language, culture and geography, creating opportunities for meaningful connections and mutual respect.
“Music is a universal language that brings people together,” he said. “Today’s performance demonstrates how quickly strong bonds can be formed when individuals share common values, creativity and purpose.”
Christensen said the Bangladesh Air Force Museum provided a fitting backdrop for the event, symbolizing the growing partnership and cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
He highlighted that although the members of the Bangladesh Air Force Band and the US Army’s 25th Infantry Division Band had met for the first time on the day of the event, they were able to perform together seamlessly through their shared passion for music.
“The ability of these musicians to come together and collaborate so effectively reflects the strength of the ties we continue to build—not only between our militaries, but also between our peoples—for the benefit of both nations,” he said.
The ambassador emphasized that Bangladesh-US relations extend far beyond security and defence cooperation and are firmly anchored in enduring people-to-people connections, educational exchanges, cultural engagement and shared aspirations.
“These human connections remain at the heart of our bilateral relationship and continue to strengthen the broad partnership between our two countries,” he added.
Christensen also thanked all participants and attendees for joining the “Freedom 250 America Week” celebrations and invited the people of Bangladesh to take part in a series of cultural and public events scheduled to be held across the country throughout the coming week and during the year-long observance of the United States’ 250th anniversary.
The programme was attended by officials of the US Embassy in Dhaka, senior Bangladesh Air Force personnel, invited guests and representatives of the media.
