Two crew members were killed after two firefighting helicopters collided mid-air while battling a massive wildfire west of Athens, Greece, on Sunday.
The collision occurred near Psatha in the Attica region as the helicopters were taking part in aerial firefighting operations. One aircraft crashed and caught fire, killing its two crew members, while the crew aboard the second helicopter survived after being rescued. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
The incident came as Greece continues to battle multiple wildfires fueled by extreme heat, strong winds and prolonged drought.
The blaze has destroyed more than 100 homes northwest of Athens and forced evacuations in several areas, including parts of Kefalonia island.
Thousands of hectares of forest and farmland have already been burned.
