At least 95 people have been killed and hundreds remain missing after devastating flash floods and landslides struck Nepal’s Himalayan region along the border with Tibet on Wednesday.
The floods swept through villages and destroyed homes, roads, bridges and power infrastructure along the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa district, causing widespread devastation.
More than 380 people, including hundreds of foreign tourists, have reportedly been reported missing.
Rescue teams are conducting search operations, but the mountainous terrain, damaged roads and continued bad weather are hampering efforts.
The disaster was reportedly triggered by a massive landslide of mud and rock that collapsed into a river, possibly following an earthquake. Authorities have warned of further risks as water levels remain high.
Nepalese security forces and emergency teams have been deployed to the worst-hit areas to rescue survivors and assess the damage.
