The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations under the Chattogram Education Board have been suspended indefinitely due to the worsening post-flood situation across the region.
The decision was announced in a notice signed by Chattogram Education Board Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Md Parvez Saddad Chowdhury on Thursday night.
According to the notice, the suspension was prompted by the overall flood situation, the physical and mental condition of examinees, and severe disruptions to road communication, making it extremely difficult for students to reach examination centres. The remaining examinations will remain postponed until further notice in line with a decision of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee.
A revised examination schedule will be announced later.
In a separate notice, the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee said the suspension also applies to Alim examinations under the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board and HSC (BM/BMT), Vocational and Diploma in Commerce examinations under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board in the Chattogram region. Examinations in the rest of the country will continue as scheduled.
Earlier, HSC examinations under the Chattogram Education Board had been suspended until July 16 due to flooding triggered by heavy rainfall.
According to the board, a total of 99,688 students from 283 colleges in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban are sitting for this year’s HSC examinations.
