DHAKA: Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said that examiners will face disciplinary action if evidence of errors or negligence is found in the evaluation of HSC examination answer scripts.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after attending an event at Shamsul Haque Khan School and College in Demra, Dhaka, on Thursday.

The minister also said examiners found lacking in answer script evaluation skills would receive training. The Ministry of Education is identifying weaknesses in the evaluation process alongside reviewing answer scripts to ensure students receive their actual results.

Earlier, Milon said a major discrepancy had been found during the re-evaluation of SSC examination answer scripts. Around 45,000 students had their grades changed, including nearly 5,000 who moved from failing to passing. Another 3,079 students newly secured GPA-5.

Drawing on this experience, the ministry is working to identify weaknesses in the answer script evaluation process, he said.

Milon reiterated that examiners who lack the necessary skills would be trained, while those found to have evaluated scripts incorrectly would face disciplinary action.

The minister also announced that HSC candidates who failed in one or two subjects would be allowed to sit for those examinations on December 2, with results scheduled to be published on December 23.

The initiative aims to ensure that students do not have to wait an entire year because of failure in just one or two subjects. The same arrangement will be introduced for future SSC candidates, he added.

Applications for HSC answer script re-scrutiny will be accepted until November 7, while the results will be published on November 23, Milon said.

He said the ministry was taking steps to publish the results quickly, considering admission schedules at Dhaka University and other universities.

The education minister said he wanted students to receive their actual results rather than results affected by evaluation errors. Knowing their actual academic performance is essential to improving the quality of education, he added.

Milon described this year’s results as positive, saying that identifying students’ actual performance would help authorities take necessary measures to improve educational standards.

Asked whether students who failed in one or two subjects would be eligible for admission to major public universities, including Dhaka University, the minister said those whose results change to a pass after re-scrutiny would be eligible to apply to universities and medical colleges.

However, those who remain unsuccessful even after re-scrutiny would not be eligible for admission, he added.
