Remittance inflows to Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia increased significantly, while receipts from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Malaysia declined, according to Bangladesh Bank data.
Saudi Arabia remained the largest source of remittances, with inflows rising by around 34% compared with the corresponding period a year earlier. Meanwhile, remittances from the UAE and Malaysia recorded declines.
Bangladesh received $587.3 million from Saudi Arabia in July of the current fiscal year, compared with $426.4 million in the same month of the previous fiscal year, marking a 37.8% increase.
Remittances from the UAE fell 10% to $255.6 million, while those from Malaysia declined 24.6% to $201.3 million.
Overall, Bangladesh received $2.86 billion in workers’ remittances in July, up 15.4% year on year.
Remittance inflows remained strong during the first quarter of FY2026-27, reaching $8.59 billion, an increase of 13.3% from the same period a year earlier.
Saudi Arabia has consistently remained Bangladesh’s largest source of remittances. In the previous fiscal year, Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia sent home about $5.85 billion, according to Bangladesh Bank data.
