Bangladesh’s exports to China, Japan, India and South Korea increased year-on-year in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, highlighting scope for further diversification beyond traditional markets in the United States and Europe.
According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), exports to China rose 9.33 percent to US$225.41 million during July-September of fiscal year 2026-27, from US$206.18 million in the same period a year earlier.
Exports to South Korea increased 7.29 percent to US$134.55 million from US$125.41 million, while shipments to India grew 5.44 percent to US$510 million from US$483.71 million.
Japan remained another major Asian destination, with Bangladeshi exports reaching US$399.11 million during the quarter, up marginally from US$396.11 million a year earlier.
The growth in these Asian markets came as Bangladesh’s overall merchandise exports also increased during the quarter.
Total export earnings reached US$13.09 billion in July-September, up 6.34 percent from US$12.31 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, according to EPB data.
The stronger performance in several Asian destinations points to growing opportunities for Bangladesh to diversify its export markets, deepen regional trade links and expand its participation in Asian supply chains.
However, sustaining and accelerating the growth will require greater focus on identifying products with competitive advantages, meeting destination-market standards, improving logistics and facilitating access to buyers and distributors.
