Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to sign an agreement with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus today (October 7) to purchase 10 aircraft as part of its fleet expansion programme.
The deal, titled “Spreading Our Wings Together,” will be signed at a ceremony at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden this evening.
The package includes four A350-900 wide-body aircraft for long-haul international routes and six A321neo narrow-body jets for regional and medium-haul services.
The signing will be attended by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, Invest Bangladesh Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury and Airbus India and South Asia President and Managing Director Jürgen Westermeier.
The agreement follows months of negotiations between Biman and Airbus. The planned acquisition, together with Biman’s agreements to purchase 25 Boeing aircraft, will bring the national flag carrier’s new-aircraft procurement pipeline to 35 planes.
Officials said deliveries of the Airbus aircraft could begin in 2033 and continue through 2036 or 2037, although the government has expressed interest in receiving the aircraft earlier.
The 10-aircraft Airbus package is expected to strengthen Biman’s capacity on both long-haul and regional routes and support the airline’s long-term network expansion.
