Applications for transfers of teachers at non-government MPO-listed schools and colleges will open on Friday (August 21), with online applications accepted until August 27, according to a notice issued by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) on Tuesday.

Teachers will have to apply online through the designated transfer portal. Each applicant can select up to three preferred institutions in order of preference.

Under the transfer policy, applications will be verified through an automated system before transfer orders are issued.

Teachers can apply for transfer to institutions in their home district. If no vacancy is available there, they can apply for a vacant post in any district within their division. They can also apply to their spouse’s home district or the district where their spouse works at a government, semi-government, autonomous or MPO-listed educational institution.

Teachers will be eligible to apply after completing two years in their current position. After joining a new workplace, they must serve there for at least two years before applying for another transfer.

The DSHE warned that applications containing incomplete or incorrect information will not be considered. Teachers whose MPO status has been suspended, who are under temporary suspension or facing criminal cases will also be ineligible.

After a transfer order is issued, the head of the concerned institution must release the teacher within 10 days. The transferred teacher must join the new workplace within another 10 days.

Applications will be processed under the revised transfer policy issued in 2026. The latest policy, issued on May 6, allows assistant teachers, lecturers and assistant professors, as well as principals, vice-principals, demonstrators and trade instructors, to transfer to equivalent positions at other institutions.

This is the fourth transfer policy introduced for teachers of non-government MPO-listed schools and colleges. Earlier policies had imposed various restrictions on eligibility.
