Students seeking admission to Class I in government secondary schools across Bangladesh will be selected through a digital lottery, while applicants to Classes II-IX will have to sit written admission tests for the 2027 academic year.
The Ministry of Education issued the Government Secondary School Admission Policy 2027 on Tuesday.
Under the policy, applicants to Class I can select up to five schools in order of preference.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) will conduct the digital lottery centrally and prepare waiting lists for vacant seats.
For Classes II-V, the admission test will carry 50 marks, including 15 each for Bangla and English and 20 for mathematics. The examination will last one hour.
For Classes VI-IX, the test will carry 100 marks, with 30 marks each for Bangla and English and 40 for mathematics.
Candidates will have two hours to complete the examination.
Students will be selected for vacant seats based on merit.
Waiting lists will also be prepared to fill seats left vacant by candidates who fail to complete admission within the stipulated time.
The policy also requires schools to publish admission notices specifying the number of vacant seats, while admission committees will ensure transparency throughout the process.
