Load shedding hits Dhaka

Dhaka residents are facing prolonged power outages, with frequent and extended load shedding reported across several parts of the capital since Wednesday night.

The situation has caused widespread suffering, as residents in different areas reported being without electricity for hours.

The disruptions have also sparked frustration on social media, with many comparing the situation to the long power cuts traditionally experienced in rural areas.

The latest outages come amid a broader electricity supply shortage across the country. Rural areas are reportedly facing even more severe disruptions, with some locations experiencing power cuts lasting several hours a day.

The worsening power situation is adding to public hardship amid hot and humid weather, while businesses and households are being forced to rely on IPS systems, generators and other backup power sources.

Residents have expressed concern that despite recent increases in electricity prices, reliable power supply remains a major challenge.
