The supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Summit’s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) has been disrupted, raising concerns that Bangladesh’s ongoing gas crisis could worsen.
The disruption comes amid already reduced LNG supplies from the country’s Moheshkhali terminals.
Recent reports said LNG supply had fallen sharply due to technical problems and adverse weather, affecting gas pressure in several areas.
The reduced supply is expected to put further pressure on the national gas network, potentially affecting households, industries, CNG filling stations and power plants.
In Chattogram, low gas pressure has already caused long queues at CNG stations and disrupted industrial production, while residential consumers have also reported difficulties in cooking.
The latest disruption could therefore deepen the gas shortage and increase public hardship unless LNG regasification and supply return to normal soon.
