Gas supply from the Excelerate Energy-operated LNG terminal in Maheshkhali has been suspended again, worsening Bangladesh’s ongoing gas crisis.
The terminal had resumed limited operations on August 6 after a fire on July 21 damaged one of its two boilers and related equipment.
The undamaged unit was supplying gas at a reduced rate.
According to Petrobangla sources, the remaining operational boiler was also shut down, bringing gas supply from the terminal to zero.
It is expected to resume operations Friday night. A full restoration will require testing and repairs to the fire-damaged boiler, which could involve another 72-hour shutdown when that work begins.
The Excelerate terminal normally has a regasification capacity of up to 500 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd).
Meanwhile, the Summit LNG terminal also faced supply disruptions due to rough seas, further reducing gas availability across the national grid.
