Gas supply to 171 large and small industrial units in Habiganj resumed on Saturday after a three-day disruption, raising hopes of a gradual return to normal production.
Mohammad Khaled Gani, manager of Jalalabad Gas Field, said gas supply to the industrial units returned to normal around 8:30am Saturday.
Engineer Mohammad Rezaul Karim, general manager of Jalalabad Gas, said the gas situation in the district’s transmission line was currently “fairly good.” He expressed hope that supplies would remain stable if LNG availability continued.
Factories have already begun preparations to restart production. Rabbi, an administrative officer of Pioneer Denim Limited, said the factory had been receiving gas since Saturday morning and was preparing to restart its machinery.
Liaqat Hossain, an administrative officer of Saiham Spinning Mills, also confirmed that gas supply to their factory had returned to normal.
According to local sources, more than 150,000 people are directly and indirectly employed in industrial units across Habiganj.
Business stakeholders said the resumption of factory operations would help restore workers’ employment and gradually revive local markets, house rentals, transportation services and other related businesses.
