Excelerate Energy’s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), or LNG terminal, in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, resumed gas supply on Saturday after remaining shut for three days.
The terminal began regasification around 2pm, offering some relief amid the country’s ongoing gas shortage. The supply was suspended for three days due to a shortage of LNG cargoes.
According to Petrobangla sources, the Excelerate terminal initially resumed supplying around 100 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas to the national grid.
By 2:30pm, the two FSRUs were supplying a combined 670 mmcfd of LNG-derived gas, while total gas supply to the national grid stood at around 2,300 mmcfd.
The Excelerate terminal had remained out of operation for an extended period following a fire during a ship-to-ship LNG transfer operation in Maheshkhali on July 21. The shutdown reduced gas supply to the national grid by around 450 mmcfd.
The terminal later resumed partial operations after repairs but was shut again last week after its LNG stocks ran out.
Its latest reopening is expected to provide some relief to power plants and industries that have been struggling with gas shortages in recent weeks.
