The government of Bangladesh is searching for alternative energy sources to address the country’s fuel crisis, with plans to import fuel from Africa if necessary, said State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed Islam.

Speaking an event Saturday  titled “Upcoming UN Conference and Bangladesh Branding,” the State Minister outlined the government’s dual focus on economic stability and political reform.

As part of efforts to strengthen the economy, the administration aims to diversify Bangladesh’s exports, actively developing the jute sector alongside the country’s prominent garments industry.

The state minister also highlighted Bangladesh’s transition to democracy, noting that the nation has returned to a democratic process after 17 years of oppression and misrule.

Following the establishment of this new democratic government, the Prime Minister is set to attend the United Nations General Assembly for the first time, she added.
