Power Grid Bangladesh PLC has formed a five-member investigation committee to determine the cause of the national grid failure that disrupted electricity supply in parts of Dhaka and Chattogram on Tuesday.
The committee, headed by Syed Ebadullah Haider Ali, chief engineer (additional charge) of Transmission-2, has been asked to submit its report within five working days.
According to the state-owned power transmission company, the committee will identify the exact technical cause of the disruption and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The outage began at 12:43pm following a fault on the Meghnaghat–Haripur national grid line.
It affected several areas of eastern Dhaka and parts of Chattogram, while the Bangladesh Secretariat also remained without electricity for nearly an hour.
The disruption caused a sharp decline in electricity generation as several gas-fired and coal-fired power plants went offline.
Power Grid Bangladesh said restoration of the national grid was completed by 2:30pm, with all transmission lines and substations back in operation.
However, power generation was being restored gradually, and intermittent load-shedding could continue until supply stabilised.
