Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on track for one of the biggest box office openings in cinema history, with industry analysts projecting a domestic debut of between $180 million and $280 million.

The highly anticipated superhero film began rolling out in select international markets on July 29 and opens across North America on July 31.

Even the lower end of the forecast would make the Tom Holland-starrer the biggest opening of 2026, surpassing Disney’s Toy Story 5, which debuted with $159.6 million. Sony is currently projecting a domestic opening of around $195 million from 4,300 North American theaters, while some analysts believe the film could challenge the $260 million opening achieved by Spider-Man: No Way Home, the second-largest domestic debut of all time.

The strong outlook has been fueled by exceptional advance ticket sales. Industry tracking services report that pre-sales have outpaced those of Deadpool & Wolverine and are comparable to No Way Home, reflecting strong audience demand. Analysts say the film benefits from the enduring popularity of the Spider-Man franchise and its place within Marvel’s established cinematic universe.

Internationally, Sony is releasing the film simultaneously with North America, a strategy expected to maximize global earnings. If the North American launch meets expectations, analysts believe the film could generate more than $400 million worldwide during its opening weekend.

Beyond commercial expectations, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has also received widespread critical acclaim. The film currently holds a 91% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers praising Tom Holland’s performance as Peter Parker, describing it as his strongest portrayal of the character. Critics have also highlighted the film’s emotional storytelling, grounded narrative and inventive action sequences, with several calling it the best Spider-Man film of Holland’s tenure.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film follows Peter Parker as he begins a new chapter after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where the world forgot his identity. The cast includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.

The film opened in Bangladesh and India on July 30 ahead of its wider international release, with exhibitors expecting packed theaters as Spider-Man aims to close July with a record-breaking box office performance. Industry observers say the film’s opening weekend will also serve as an important indicator of whether audiences remain eager for big-budget superhero movies.
