Spider-Man: Brand New Day continued its strong run at the North American box office in its fourth weekend, earning $39 million and holding the top spot despite competition from new releases Insidious: Out of the Further and Jason Statham-led Mutiny.
The latest Spider-Man film, distributed by Sony Pictures, has now grossed $854.9 million domestically through Sunday. It has surpassed 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home to become the third-highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office.
The film has also become Sony’s highest-grossing domestic release. It set the studio’s global box office record last weekend.
Worldwide, Brand New Day has collected $2.22 billion, making it the sixth-highest-grossing film in box office history. It has overtaken Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens, which has slipped to seventh place with $2.07 billion.
The film is now within striking distance of Titanic, which ranks fifth worldwide with $2.26 billion, and China’s Ne Zha 2, which stands fourth at $2.27 billion.
Meanwhile, Insidious: Out of the Further debuted in second place with $25.3 million in North America. The sixth instalment in the horror franchise was released by Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films and Blumhouse’s Atomic Monster.
The new Insidious film earned a C+ CinemaScore, tying 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door for the lowest audience grade in the franchise.
The film has grossed $60.3 million worldwide so far, pushing the total box office for the Insidious franchise beyond $800 million.
Released in 3,330 North American theatres, Out of the Further stars Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Lin Shaye. The story follows a young mother who discovers she can bring spirits back with her from the supernatural realm into the real world.
The film follows Insidious: The Red Door, which featured original franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. That film opened to $33 million domestically and eventually earned $189 million worldwide.
