Mirzapur: The Movie is generating strong excitement ahead of its theatrical release on September 4, with advance ticket sales gaining momentum and the popular streaming franchise preparing to make its big-screen debut.
By Thursday morning, a day before release, the film had sold around 1.4 lakh tickets for its opening day, generating nearly Rs 4 crore in advance gross revenue, according to Sacnilk. The film had secured more than 7,400 shows, while its total earnings including blocked seats stood at around Rs 6 crore. Sacnilk
The strong pre-release response has raised expectations for the film’s opening, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, where the Mirzapur franchise has developed a substantial following. Trade observers expect spot bookings on release day to provide an additional boost.
The film marks the first theatrical outing for the Mirzapur universe, which began as a web series in 2018 and went on to build a large fan base through three seasons. Sacnilk
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, Mirzapur: The Movie brings back key members of the original cast, including Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu Sharma as Munna Tripathi. Ravi Kishan, Jitendra Kumar, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Abhishek Banerjee are also part of the cast. NDTV Profit
The film has received an ‘A’ certificate from India’s Central Board of Film Certification and has a runtime of approximately 197 minutes, or more than three hours. India Today
The advance-booking figures are particularly significant because Mirzapur originated as an OTT property rather than a conventional theatrical franchise. Its performance could therefore offer an indication of how effectively a popular streaming series can convert its digital fan base into cinema audiences.
With the release date approaching, the film is now expected to benefit from both advance bookings and last-minute ticket sales, especially in markets where the franchise enjoys a strong following.
