The 1994 Bollywood blockbuster Mohra, starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon, is set to return to cinemas in a 4K-remastered version on November 6, during Diwali week, setting up a box-office clash with the much-anticipated Ramayana.

Trimurti Films Pvt Ltd, the production house behind Mohra, confirmed the re-release in a video posted on its YouTube channel. The film will be re-released by Deepinder Singh’s Rimpy Films International.

The re-release comes amid a renewed interest in older Bollywood films. Several titles, including Rockstar (2011), Laila Majnu (2018) and Tumbbad (2018), performed strongly during their second theatrical runs in 2024.

In 2025, Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) generated more than Rs 40 crore following its re-release, emerging as one of the biggest successes in the re-release market. More recently, Avengers Endgame: Encore also recorded impressive numbers.

Rimpy Films International has been promoting the Mohra re-release on social media and has announced plans to bring back other films produced by Trimurti, including Vidhaata (1982), Tridev (1989), Yudh (1985) and Gupt (1994).

The company has also confirmed that Heera Talkies, a single-screen cinema in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, will screen Mohra in all four daily shows, meaning the theatre will not screen Ramayana during that period.

Meanwhile, Rimpy Films International has re-released Zora (2025), the latest directorial venture of Rajiv Rai, this week. The film is also being screened at Heera Talkies.

Directed by Rajiv Rai, Mohra featured an ensemble cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover, Raza Murad, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Poonam Jhawer.

Originally released on July 1, 1994, the action thriller became a blockbuster, drawing audiences with its action sequences, performances and music composed by Viju Shah.

Its soundtrack featured popular songs such as Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast and Tip Tip Barsa Paani, which remain among the film’s most recognisable attractions.

The 4K remaster is expected to offer audiences an opportunity to experience the film and its music on the big screen again. However, its release alongside Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, could affect its screen availability.

The performance of Mohra in its second theatrical run will test whether the 1994 hit can repeat its earlier success with a new generation of moviegoers.
