DHAKA: Dhaka’s air quality has been recorded ‘unheatly’ on Saturday with Singapore topping the list of cities with the most polluted air in the world, with an air quality index (AQI) score of 200. Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, ranked sixth with a score of 169, indicating ‘unhealthy’ air quality.
The information was obtained from the air quality index published by IQAir, a Switzerland-based air quality monitoring organisation, on Saturday (October 10).
According to IQAir’s air quality index, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia ranked second with a score of 196, followed by Hanoi in Vietnam in third place with 186 and Kolkata, the capital of India’s West Bengal state, in fourth place with 175.
Under IQAir’s standards, an AQI score of 0–50 indicates ‘good’ air quality, while 51–100 is considered ‘moderate’. A score of 101–150 is classified as ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’, while 151–200 is considered ‘unhealthy’.
An AQI score of 201–300 is classified as ‘very unhealthy’, while a score above 300 is considered ‘hazardous’.
