Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today urged government officials to ensure that every penny allocated for development projects is spent properly in the national interest and for the welfare of the people.
“Almighty Allah has given us the opportunity to work for our country and its people. We should all make sincere efforts to fulfil our responsibilities to the best of our ability,” he said.
The Prime Minister made the remarks at a meeting to review the activities of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the progress of its development projects at the ministry’s conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat, said his Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.
At the meeting, officials briefed the Prime Minister on the ministry’s ongoing activities, the implementation progress of development projects, and future action plans and targets.
“You have undertaken many projects and set many targets. The government will certainly allocate budgets to achieve those targets. But this is public money. I hope all of you will pay attention to ensuring that every penny of public money is spent properly in the national interest and for the welfare of the people,” Tarique Rahman said.
He urged officials to consider public service a valuable opportunity to work for the people, noting that those serving in government positions were privileged compared with the country’s wider population.
“Compared with the country’s overall population, those serving in government positions are privileged and should use this opportunity to work for the welfare of the people,” he said.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of sincerity and dedication in discharging official responsibilities, saying opportunities to serve in public positions did not last forever.
“Let us sincerely carry out whatever work we have the opportunity to do. We must all make that effort,” he said.
At the end of the meeting, he again called on officials to make the best use of their time in office to serve the country and its people.
“Let us all try to make proper use of the time we have in our respective positions to work for the people and the country,” he said.
Tarique Rahman also encouraged officials to express their views more actively, saying their field-level experience and observations could contribute significantly to government decision-making.
He said he intended to review the ministry’s progress again in the future and expressed hope that officials would speak more openly at subsequent meetings, sharing their experiences, observations and opinions.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid, State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Secretary Md Delwar Hossain and senior ministry officials attended the meeting.
