A 50-member advance team representing five Bangladesh Army contingents left the country for Haiti on Thursday to participate in the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), authorised by the United Nations Security Council.

Before their departure, Chief of General Staff of the Bangladesh Army Lieutenant General Md Mainur Rahman met the departing personnel at Army Headquarters in Dhaka on Thursday morning.

During the meeting, he provided guidance on key aspects of their mission, emphasising professionalism, discipline, vigilance and security while carrying out their duties in the mission area.

The advance team’s deployment marks a further step in Bangladesh’s contribution to international peace and security through participation in a UN Security Council-authorised initiative.

Bangladesh has a longstanding role in international peacekeeping and continues to contribute personnel to multinational missions aimed at maintaining peace and stability.

The army personnel are expected to undertake their assigned responsibilities in Haiti as part of the international effort to address gang-related violence and support security in the country.
