The formal process of relocating the Secretariat to Agargaon will begin once the Cabinet approves the proposal, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher has said.

The relocation plan will be discussed at the next Cabinet meeting, the minister told journalists on Tuesday (October 13).

He made the remarks while responding to a question at a lottery-based transfer programme for executive engineers of the Public Works Department at the meeting room of the Housing and Public Works Ministry at the Secretariat.

Taher said a master plan for relocating the Secretariat had been prepared in the past, and policy-level work and preliminary procedures had begun in line with that plan. The current government also started working on the issue four months ago, he added.

“We have completed the preliminary preparations for relocating the Secretariat. The proposal to move it to Agargaon will be placed at the next Cabinet meeting. If the Cabinet approves it, the formal process will begin,” the minister said.

Referring to the prime minister’s instructions and willingness to implement the plan, Taher said the government aims to complete construction and all related activities within its stipulated tenure.

The goal is to relocate the entire Secretariat to Agargaon within the government’s set timeframe, he added.
